Designer Series - Caitlin Crisp

Welcome to the sixth edition of our Designer Series, a celebration of the talented creatives behind the beautiful brands we proudly stock at Sisters & Co.

In this instalment, we sit down with Caitlin Crisp, designer and founder of her namesake label. Caitlin shares the woman who inspired her most in design, the advice that shaped her early career, the project she’s most proud of, and the mantra that reminds her to keep creativity joyful and not take it all too seriously.

Who has inspired you most as a woman in design?

My mother! I love designing pieces that she feels confident in.

What advice would you give your younger self starting out in this industry?

The same advice my parents gave me when I was afraid to start and didn’t feel ready, they said “the worst answer you can get is no, you can deal with that. The mistakes you make now are the smallest and cheapest you will make in your career.” In other words, just give it a go! What’s the worst that can happen? Starting is the hardest part.. all the mistakes we make are just lessons.

Can you share a project you’re most proud of and why?

My business as a whole, the biggest and best project of my life, and I am so proud to have my name on every garment we produce.

What challenges have you faced as a woman in design, and how did you overcome them?

Often, I get seen and judged as a designer and not a busines woman, but I am both. Often, men don’t think I know what I’m doing in business, or they underestimate me, but I like to surprise them!

What is a favourite quote or mantra you live by?

“We’re selling clothes, not saving lives!” I try not to take myself too seriously. We do what we do because we love it, so I don’t want to lose that joy.
