Sisterhood Series - Andrene McGinity & Tyla Parry

Welcome to the third edition of our Sisterhood Series, celebrating the amazing community of women surrounding Sisters & Co.

We had the pleasure of speaking with the effortlessly stylish Andrene McGinity and Tyla Parry. Many of you who have visited the store will know that Andrene has been an integral part of Sisters & Co for many years, while her daughter Tyla is Brand Coordinator at Marle. With Tyla expecting her first child in just a few weeks, and in celebration of Mother's Day, it was the perfect time to catch up with them to chat about motherhood, life, and style.

What is your favourite thing about each other?

Andrene: Not only is Tyla beautiful inside and out she’s also very strong, resilient, creative, kind and wise beyond her years. She has this beautiful calmness and maturity about her. I could go on and on. I’m very proud.

Tyla: It’s too hard to pick just one, Mum is truly the most amazing person I know. I watch her constantly go above and beyond for those around her, especially her children. It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have such a fun, loving, attentive and caring mother. If I can be half the woman she is for my daughter, I’ll be very happy.

What does being a mother / soon-to-be mother mean to you?

Andrene: Everything, they’re my world!!

Tyla: I feel incredibly lucky and excited to enter motherhood and know the immense privilege of having my own mum close and by my side as I do. I have dreamt of becoming a mother my whole life and our journey to falling pregnant was long and tough, to finally be so close to meeting our daughter means the world and still feels very surreal.

How would you describe your mother–daughter bond?

Andrene: Very strong and about to get stronger which I’m so excited about. We’ve been looking forward to this next chapter for a long time.

Tyla: Mum and I are very close and love a lot of the same things - spending time with her truly feels like hanging out with my best friend. We have a very special bond that I treasure and I can’t wait to share this with my own daughter.

Tyla, how have you found dressing during pregnancy? What are your favourite pieces?

I found dressing in the early stages tricky, the changes to your body are immediate and can be really overwhelming. I've loved embracing my bump as it's grown and learning to dress my body through each phase. Elasticated waistbands have become a non-negotiable, I've recently added the Marle Ellidy Pant in Bisque to my wardrobe along with the Victoria and Babette Cardigans which I know I will reach for a lot this winter at home with our baby girl.

Andrene, as a mother of three, what’s one piece of advice you’d pass down?

To always be polite and kind. To treat people like you would like to be treated. Find something you’re passionate about and make a living out of it. Oh, and always put your shoulders back.

What’s a self-care essential for you?

Tyla: Exercise has always been a self-care essential and this has taken on many different forms over the last year. Recently as I near the end of my pregnancy and begin to slow down, walks around the neighbourhood and down to the beach with my husband and dog have become a sacred part of my day. We leave our phones at home and usually spend most of the time trying to imagine how different our lives are going to look in a matter of weeks when our girl arrives.

Andrene: Exercise and eating well!!

Favourite recipe for a family meal together?

Tyla: Mum is the ultimate hostess and everything I know about cooking and baking, I've learnt from her. We have some very special family cake recipes - Mums famous Chocolate Mud Cake has seen endless birthdays and celebrations over the years including our wedding. Mum has always made birthdays special, making sure there are multiple cakes - something I now love to do for my husband and look forward to sharing with our daughter.

Andrene: I love cooking for my family but a good roast lamb is hard to beat!!
